Camshafts - Camshafts have a pressed on pinion with 48 teeth, 16D.P.  20°P.A. for spares, they are only supplied ready assembled. As ET47/1FAS front, ET47/1RAS rear and punched marked in order to facilitate retiming the engine. Camshafts which are found with porous bronze bushes fitted, and assemblies in need of attention should preferably be returned to the Works. The camshaft spindles ET156 and ET156/1 are drilled for lubrication. Their diameter new is 0.5015" (12.73mm).
Thrust washers are fitted between cam pinions and steadt plate only in 1/2" (E95) and 5/16"(E98/1) sizes, the former innermost end float should be between .005" and .015" (0.12mm and 0.38mm).
Camshafts should never be separated from their pinions as they are originally assembled in correct relationship to the marked teeth and with correct interference fit. If at any time refitting becomes necessary, it should be noted on the 500cc machines, looking at the pinion end of the camshaft, the tooth space marked by the two dots should be 197° 27' in advance of the centerline of the camshaft slot in a clockwise direction.

March 12, 2012 - Plotted Megacycle cam 554X1
This cam timing could be shifted either direction, but this plot would remain the same.
Valve clearance was set at zero with free spinning push rods, no discernible play.
